Are You Sick?

sickAre you physically sick or mentally tired?  Are you depressed and feeling down?

Did you know that the Bible is full of answers on healing and that Jesus can heal you even today?

The Bible is full of answers about healing.  It teaches us faith for miraculous healing, and it also tells us that wisdom is directly correlated to healing.  Check these out.

My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
For they will prolong your life many years
and bring you prosperity.
-Proverbs 3:-2

Do not be wise in your own eyes,
Fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.
- Proverbs 3:7-8

Listen my son, accept what I say,
And the years of your life will be many.
- Proverbs 4:10

My son pay attention to what I say,
Listen closely to my words.
Do not let them out of your site,
Keep them within your heart;
For they are life to those who find them
And health to a man’s whole body,
Above else, guard your heart,
For it is the wellspring of life.
- Proverbs 4:20-23

Some people think God only heals certain kinds of diseases.  But if you look in your Bible you will find that God heals all diseases.  He is not picky.

Praise the Lord, Oh my soul,
And forget not all his benefits-
Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.
- Psalm 103:2-3

Does God heal some or all?  Can you believe that God will forgive all?  If you can believe that God can forgive all, then trust His Word that He will heal all as well.

In the book of Mark the Bible says that believers will lay their hands on the sick and they will be made well.

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
-Mark 16:15-20

We have no problem quoting the part about preaching the good news?  How come we have a problem believing the part about the signs following those who believe?  Is not the Bible true?  If it is true then the question is… “Do you know any believer in Jesus Christ?”

Then guess what?  They can pray for you and God will answer them.  In James it says that the prayer of faith will heal the sick. I want to encourage you to find a believer and have them lay hands on you.  What do you have to loose?  Can they make it any worse?

Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
-James 5:13-16

Wherever you are, Jesus is able to minister to your needs right now.  If you have never asked Him to come into your life and be your Saviour, I highly recommend Him to you.  Once I also was hurting and alone and in pain.  I suffered from depression and use to cry myself to sleep many nights.  I got so sick I could not work and my housecleaning business fell apart.  All of my girls quit and my clients canceled all at once.  I could not pay my bills and I was barely able to mother my 3 year old son and I was pregnant with my second child out of wedlock.  Things were very bleak indeed.  In my lowest moment, when I thought that I was done for sure, I cried out to God.  I realized that I had tried to do it all on my own without Him, and that was sin to me.  I had become so important in my own eyes that I never considered him.  I wanted to do it all my own way.  I wanted to live the way I wanted to live.  I wanted to spend my money the way that I wanted.  I wanted to keep going out on Saturday night and getting drunk.  I wanted to pick the men in my life and not surrender.  But what had all of that got me?  I was sick and defeated.

Finally I gave it up to Jesus.  I admitted to God that I was a sinner.  I had done some things wrong and I asked Him to forgive me.  I asked Jesus to come into my life and make me whole.  And that is just what He did.  Immediately I began to feel better.  The sickness left and I was well.  I was set free from depression, and loneliness, and fear, and control.  I began to pray for others and they began to get well too.  Glory to God!  This is what a life with Jesus can do for you.  You don’t want to be sick and defeated do you?  What do you have to loose?

Maybe you are a better person than I was.  Maybe you feel that you have not done those things wrong.  But we are all sinners.  And according to God sin is sin.  Have you ever told a lie?  Even once?  Even a white lie?  Did you know that a lie is a lie.  God is color blind when it comes to lies.  Have you ever looked at a man or a woman and thought in your mind a lustful thought?  Did you know that Jesus said that if a man looks at a woman with lust he has committed adultery with her already in his heart?  Have you ever stolen anything?  Anything at all?  Even a pen?  If you have answered yes to any of these things then you are a sinner too.  So stop trying to be so self-righteous and get over it.  So what?  You are a sinner.  We all have sinned.  Join the club.

God can and will forgive you if you ask Him.  Why don’t you ask Him?  What do you have to lose?

Let Him help you.  He wants to carry your burdens.  In Isaiah God tells us that Jesus died and suffered on the cross to take your sicknesses.  Why not let Him have them?  What do you want them for anyway?  Ask Christ to be your savior.  He wants to save your soul from an eternity without Him and He wants to save your body from sickness right now.

Here is Isaiah 53:4-5 written in common English from The Message version of the Bible.  It is a prophecy about Jesus that was made hundreds of years before He came.  When He died on the cross all of this happened.

The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling,
a scrubby plant in a parched field.
There was nothing attractive about him,
nothing to cause us to take a second look.
He was looked down on and passed over,
a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.
One look at him and people turned away.
We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried—
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself,
that God was punishing him for his own failures.
But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises we get healed.
We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost.
We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way.
And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong,
on him, on him.

If you are sick you need to acknowledge your need for a savior.  You need help.  Why put it off any longer.  Turn to Jesus.  He is the only one with the ability to heal you in a lasting way.  He is the healer.  Say this simple prayer right now.  What do you have to lose?

“Dear Heavenly Father,
OK.  I admit it.  I have been trying to do everything all by myself and I have acted like I didn’t need You.  I am sorry.  I have done a lot of things wrong in my life.  Please forgive me all of my sins.  I ask You Jesus, come into my life and make me whole.  I give You that empty spot in me.  I give You every void.  I give You all of my sickness and depression.  I give You my whole life.  Jesus be my friend forever.  Be the master of my life.  Holy Spirit fill me up to overflowing and baptize me.  I ask You to give me your fruit of peace and joy and love as evidence of Your presence in my life.  Be my guide, my teacher, and my counselor.  Help me to grow in You so that I will be strong and mighty and have that fulfillment in my own life.  In Jesus’ Name I pray.  Amen”

Now you are a believer too.  From this moment on you can lay hands on your own self as well as others and you can pray and ask God for healing, just like any other believer.  Jesus said, “All that you ask in my Name you shall receive.”  So get started.  Ask God.  Get strong.  Learn to take the authority in the Name of Jesus.

The Bible says that when you confess Jesus with your mouth you become born again.  You were not born again in a natural way.  You were born again in a spiritual way.  Your spirit just came to life!  You are a new creation.  But this is not the end of your journey.  It is just the beginning.  Now you will want to get strong in the Lord.  Why?

Because if you remain a spiritual baby the devil is going to continue kicking you around.  He will work continually to keep bringing new sickness on you.  The Bible tells us in John 10:10 that he came to steal, kill and destroy.  Do you want to stay weak and remain his target?  You see, he can’t get your soul, once you have asked Jesus into your life, and he is a bit upset about that.  But the next best thing for him is to keep you spiritually weak, so that you will not influence anyone else to become a follower of Jesus.  He doesn’t want you to be a victorious healthy Christian like the Bible teaches you to be.  He wants you to weak, defeated, and miserable so that your life will not bring glory to God and nobody will listen to you talk when you mention Jesus.  He wants you to be a hypocrite.  Don’t let him get away with it.

Also it would be helpful to get some good books and CDs on the subject of healing.  We have some available in our resources section of this website, or check out material by Kenneth Copeland, John G. Lake, Benny Hinn or other known healing evangelists.  Get free and stay free.

Don’t be a mediocre Christian who you can barely tell from any other miserable person on the street.  Let God heal all of those broken areas.  It doesn’t take much effort, just a little learning and growing.  Here are a few simple steps to help you get started.

The Next Step

1. Read the Word

Some people think the Bible is a big ugly rule book, but in reality the Bible is God’s love letter to you. If you were a father who loved his kids you would want them to know how to have the best things in life. You would want to protect them from the things that would hurt them and you would want to encourage them. That is what the Bible is all about.

Start by reading the book of John. It is a wonderful story of how Jesus walked this earth and it will really bless you. Then try Luke and Acts. You will be captivated by the love that the Father has for you. If you do not have a Bible let us know. We can help you get one.

2. Pray

Jesus has been waiting for this day for you to come to Him. He is excited to hear from you. Begin to pray. Just talk to Him like you would talk to anyone else. Praise Him and thank Him for all that you have and all that you are. Thank Him for dying for you on the cross. Let Him know how you are feeling. It is alright to tell God that you are tired, angry, or frustrated. He understands your pain as well as your triumphs. Don’t be afraid to tell Him what you think. But then ask Him what He thinks. Ask Him to show you His way in the situation. It does not matter if you get answers immediately or if you get goose bumps. Just ask Him for direction and that direction will show up. Go ahead and ask for His peace and for the fulfillment of His promises.

Learn to pray out loud. Yes, God can hear you in your head. But prayers of faith are always out loud. Also you need to pray out loud so that the devil, who can not read your mind, know that he has lost all power over your life. This is a way of resisting his influence, and the Bible tells us in the book of James that if we resist him, he will flee from us! Sounds good, doesn’t it?

3. Come meet with other believers

The Bible tells us in Hebrews 10:25 not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. In other words, come together. The devil is a wolf who loves to devour a lone sheep. He is just waiting for you to get alone so that he can bug you with doubt, make you angry and steel your joy. He wants to whisper in your ear, “Nothing really happened,” “You are still the same,” “You are unworthy,” and other such lies from the pit. He wants to use fear to keep you away from the body of Christ where you will get strong enough to kick his butt. He wants to build distrust in you toward other believers so you will not gain relationships that will help you on your walk to victory. He will tell you, “they are all a bunch of hypocrites at that church,” and “they don’t really accept you for who you are.” Recognize his tactics and take a stand against him.

It is true that there are sinners in the church. There should be. The church is meant to be a spiritual hospital where the spiritually sick come for healing and restoration. There are no perfect people anywhere but we serve a perfect God. He is well able to use even us imperfect people, and He may even use you and I in spite of our shortcomings if we will obey Him and do as He asks us to do.

Go to church, learn to be the church wherever you go and be an enemy to the enemy. There are people out there who are just like you and they need Jesus. This is how you will become strong enough to tell them what Christ has done in you. He is beginning such a miracle in you. Grow strong!
